Budget Friendly Invitations

Monday, June 1st, 2009

Most brides are looking for ways to cut costs in their budget. While creating a DIY invitation can save money. Be sure to look at the total cost before purchasing the supplies.

One resource that I refer my brides to is a party supply store - Party City. In addition to party items, the have basic wedding resources.

However, what a lot of people don’t realize is that they also have invitation books. You can order direct from these books and get embossed invitations. The best part is to wait until they offer a special or you have a coupon. This can save up to 25% at certain times.

You can also order simple embossed invitations and then use some inexpensive ideas to make them look custom.

Cookie Press Your Design

Tuesday, May 19th, 2009

Recently, our wedding invitation designer has been helping plan her niece’s wedding. While using the Martha Stewart website she found an article about using a cookie press. We thought that this is a wonderful idea.

Your invitation design can be made into a cookie press and used when you bake. Using the cookie press is easy to do and an uniquely fun way to continue sharing your design with others. Cookies can be made for a wedding shower, reception or any time after the wedding.

I decided to use one of our monogram invitation designs to test making the cookies. My first attempt I just used the cookie press it push the design into the cookie. I was very excited when I put them into the oven but I don’t have photos to show you because my husband found them while they were cooling! I guess it might be better to cook them when no one is home and hungry.

There are many ways to use the cookie press to decorate cookies. This is a fun way to enjoy some time with the girls before or after the wedding while sharing your personal design with everyone.

Hiring Quality Wedding Vendors at Affordable Prices

Wednesday, March 4th, 2009

The economy has left so many brides and grooms scrambling with wonder how they can afford to plan the wedding of their dreams without sacrificing quality. One way would be to hire a professional who provides more than one service. Usually, you will receive at least 10% off your selected services along with working on your wedding day. Also, the convenience of meeting at one location for multiple services helps save valuable planning time.

Another tactic would be request a payment plan so it’s more affordable. Ask if you can make monthly payments so it’s more like a car payment. Finally, with vendors like photographers and videographers ask if they would be willing to work out a bridal registry. Have your guests put money towards the photographer of your dreams.

10 Tips to Stress Free Wedding Invitations (Guest Post)

Sunday, February 8th, 2009

These tips to keep the process of ordering, mailing and addressing your wedding invitations stress free are pure gold if you heed them now.

1. Order at least a dozen extra invitations and envelopes.

This is probably the #1 mistake that brides make. Mistakes are likely to happen when addressing envelopes so you should be sure to have extra envelopes on hand. It’s surprising how many times a family member supplying you with a list of guests inadverdently leaves out a few guests. Most invitations cost much more per invitation when ordered in small amounts, so don’t end up making the mistake of not ordering extra invitations and then having to pay more for just a few invitations.

2. Make sure to order a few extra for keepsakes.

Find out who wants keepsakes. and include this in your invitation count. There may be parents, grandparents and siblings. Many times invitations sent in the mail don’t arrive good enough for a keepsake.

3. Have your invitation envelopes delivered early so that you get a head start on addressing them

Most invitation companies will hold your order and ship everything at once. Let them know you want your envelopes first and they’ll get those right out to you. You can get started on the envelopes and save a little stress by not having to rush the addressing.

4. When counting your guest list make sure to count each couple or household as only one invitation.

Many times the bride and groom look at the guest list and count 200 wedding guests coming to the wedding. Only to realize later after ordering the invitations that they didn’t need 200 invitations but only 100 since each family or couple only needs one invitation.

5. Allow plenty of time to carefully address, assemble and mail your invitations.

We suggest allowing at least two weeks for addressing and mailing your invitations. It’s a good idea to add in a couple of “just in case” days. I know this is common sense but addressing envelopes can get tedious and the best way to be sure this isn’t stressing you out at the last minute is to give yourself plenty of time to address your envelopes.

6. Check your postage.

This is a biggie! Many invitations today are odd size or made from heavy paper and require extra postage. The postage regulations are always changing on envelope sizing, so be sure to take a complete setup of your invitations to the post office and have the postage verified. Verifying your postage assures that all your invitations arrive as planned.

7. Read up on invitation wording ettiquette

There are many different circumstances today and you want to make sure you get it right. How do you list your divorced parents on the invitation when one is remarried? Can you mention the gifts on your invitation? There’s lot’s of do’s and dont’s. Be sure you know what they are.

8. Give some thought to where you want responses sent.

Gifts are usually sent to the address on the invitation return envelope or the RSVP envelope. Make sure that the person whose address you are using is ready and able to handle the RSVP’s and the gifts that will arrive.

9. Be organized

Addressing and mailing your invitations goes much smoother and eliminates confusion if you develop a system of organization that allows you to have all your guests information on one list before you start addressing the envelopes.

10. Double check the spelling of everything on your invitation.

Not only the spelling but check and recheck that all addresses and information is correct. Then have someone else proof your invitation again. Prevention is the key to paying for your wedding invitations only once. Don’t forget, when your wedding invitations are all addressed, stuffed and mailed. Sit back with a nice cup of tea, put your feet up and take a deep breath and relax!

Saving Time… and Money (Guest Post)

Sunday, February 1st, 2009

Through each aspect of wedding preparation, many couples are looking to cut corners and reduce costs and fees where they can so that they may splurge elsewhere.

I would caution couples to think ahead about using this logic on the purchase of their wedding invitations.

There are many processes the invite must go through: stuffing, addressing, mailing and hopefully a safe return to the couple. What happens if one should get wet? What if you mis-spell something as you address them? What if the Post Office returns one to you, “Oops!, We’re sorry we destroyed your mailpiece.”? There will always be an instance where enough, is just NEVER enough.

If you have 74 couples attending the wedding, 75 invitations is NOT ENOUGH. Did you know that they price difference between 75 and 100 invitations on even a high end invite could be less than $25?!

If you did choose to only order 75 of everything and your future mother-in-law adds the other 3 ladies of her golf foursome (and thier husbands) to the guest list, making you just 2 invitations short… that the minimum order on many wedding invites is 25 and you will now be processed as a brand new order, rather than just a re-order? The $25 saved on the first order probably won’t even cover the deposit required to place your order into production at this point.

And now, your second order of invites will be about 10-14 days behind the first mailing… which means the respond date may be quickly approaching.

The good thing: the groom’s Aunt Tilly will have plenty of extra invitations to scrapbook for you, your parents, his parents…

My recomendation: Always order plenty of extra invitations to save your time and money, not to mention your sanity later on.

Choosing Your Wedding Stationery (Guest Post)

Tuesday, January 27th, 2009

When it comes to setting the tone of your wedding, choosing wedding stationery can be one of your most important choices. The wedding invitation is the first glimpse that your guests will get of your wedding style and theme. Use these tips to help choose the right style of wedding invitations for you.

Contemporary Wedding Invitations
If you’re a modern bride planning a chic urban wedding, a contemporary style is the way to go. Although you’re not requiring a black tie dress code, you expect your guests to clean up nice for your special event. Choose hand-made paper, decorative bows, or transparent paper with a dark background for a modern look.

Casual Wedding Invitations
Your fiancé plans to wear a simple shirt and tie, and you’ve always thought a cowgirl hat would go great with your wedding dress. Set a relaxed tone for your wedding with casual stationery. You certainly don’t want your guests to overdress if your reception consists of an outdoor BBQ at your parents’ house. Sending out more formal invites would only serve to confuse guests, so if a casual wedding it is, a casual invitation it should be.

Unique Wedding Invitations
People have always described you as a “different” kind of girl. If you plan to drive off for your honeymoon in an ice cream van rather than a limo, unique would be a good word to describe you. Choose something different and rouse guests’ interests by sending out something that’s not just your average wedding invitation. Add photos or an ethnic touch to make your stationery truly yours.

Elegant Wedding Invitations
Not everyone aspires to model their weddings after the world’s royal families, but if you are that kind of bride, make sure choose timeless elegant wedding stationery. A garden wedding followed by high tea would certainly call for something above and beyond your normal white paper invitation cards. Let guests know what to expect by having your invites printed with Ecru paper, gold filigree, or lace trim. Ecru alone is enough to tell your guests that this event may be the high-class party of the year.

Choosing the right wedding invitation style is key to setting your wedding theme and letting your guests know what kind of event it will be. Your friends may know you well enough to guests, but chances are that the majority of your guest list will decide based on what they receive in the mail. Choose wisely and set the tone right.

Wedding Invitations: Things a Bride Should Know (Guest Post)

Wednesday, November 26th, 2008

Weddings are a very special time, when two people in love start their newlife together. If you are planning your wedding you know there is much more to preparing than meets the eye. A bride has many tasks to take care of, the dress, the flowers, and the invitations to name a few.  Wedding invitations are just as much a part of the planning process as any other task. Here are some important things to keep in mind when selecting your invitations.

Color: Wedding colors should be incorporated into the invitations. Choosing colors for a wedding can be a difficult task, but once chosen they are the colors that will be attached to the wedding ceremony, reception, flowers, dresses, everything. Continue the color choice by incorporating it right into the invitation. There is a great variety of colors available for wedding invitations, so you are sure to find a color choice that matches your wedding colors.

Theme: Wedding invitations should coincide with the theme of the wedding. Is it a spring, fall, or winter wedding? The theme of the wedding greatly depends on the time of year the wedding is held. There are some wonderful selections for spring and summer weddings that incorporate flowers and natural elements right into the invitation. For fall or winter weddings there are many varieties that include luscious fall colors, or cool icy winter themes.

Theme of invitation may also be incorporated to other aspects of the ceremony and the invitation. When ordering your invitations, try to order your programs and thank you notes at the same time. You’ll have a wonderful coordinating theme, and be done with the paper work.

RSVP: Ordering RSVP cards. RSVP should be ordered along with the invitations. All invitations have coordinating RSVP cards and envelopes that are sent right along with the invitation. RSVP cards can be very important for the reception. If the reception is being catered, the catering company needs a count for how much food and also how much it will cost. Seating at the reception can also be dependent on how many guests will be attending. An RSVP card is also important for booking lodging for guests.

Whatever theme, color, or style of invitation is chosen, there is an endless variety of selections. Guests will be delighted when they receive the beautiful wedding invitation. It is the time to start becoming excited for the upcoming event.
